'Learning English' vs. 'Knowing English'

The problem with traditional learning

School teaches English as a subject — grammar, reading, writing. But language is a communication tool, not an academic subject. Without practicing speaking and listening, the language stays "in the head" and never reaches "the mouth."

What does "knowing English" actually mean?

Really knowing English means thinking in English without translating in your head, responding quickly in conversation, understanding movies and podcasts without subtitles, and writing a business email without reaching for a dictionary.
