Math: Why So Many Kids Fear It — and How to Overcome It
"I'm just not good at math" is usually not true. The child simply hasn't met math in the right way yet.
Where does the fear come from?
Usually from one negative experience that left a mark — a critical teacher, a failed test, an exercise that wasn't understood. The child's brain flags "math = danger," and it's hard to walk that back.
The solution: back to basics, without pressure
In most cases, when a child "doesn't get" fractions, the real problem is multiplication. And when they don't get multiplication, the problem is addition. A good teacher finds the real gap and starts there.
Math through real life
Shopping at the supermarket, card games, cooking — it's all math. When a child sees that math is relevant to their life, motivation rises.
At Bright Stars English we also offer private and small-group math lessons.
